Train Like A Ninja
By Desiree Weeks
Ninjas have long been popular in folktales, films, and comics and, much like ninjas themselves, their history is also a bit shrouded in mystery. The name “ninja” translates to “one who is invisible” and “shinobi”, another name used for ninjas, translates to “one who sneaks.” They first seemed to have appeared in history in the 15th century during the Sengoku period but could have existed as early as the 12th century. As ninjas were known for more “covert” methods of warfare such as infiltration and ambushes, they were deemed dishonorable beneath the honor of the samurai. These unconventional warfare methods are known as ninjutsu.
Ninjas were primarily hired by powerful people as stealth soldiers and mercenaries. While the idea of ninjas usually conjures ideas of someone wearing an all-black outfit, it was more likely that ninjas would wear disguises of regular civilians to move without being noticed. It’s believed the portrayal of black garb is due to artistic convention to give the appearance of invisibility. Obviously, ninjas were also well trained in the art of weaponry, which is where we come in. Whether you’re looking to build a collection or train like a ninja, BudK has a unique selection of ninja weapons to choose from. Here are just a few highlights from our collection.
