The bayonet is an ever-evolving weapon that has a long history dating all the way back to the 16th century. The M9 Bayonet is a multi-purpose knife with a 7-inch blade that partially replaced the M7 Bayonet, which was introduced in the 1960s. When compared to its predecessor, the M9 Bayonet has a thicker blade that is half an inch longer.

The M9 Bayonet was officially adopted by the U.S. Army in 1984 and can be used on the M16 series rifle and M4 carbine. The bayonet is secured onto the gun via a metal mount called a bayonet lug and has a muzzle-ring that fits around the gun’s muzzle, allowing the gun to still be used while the bayonet is attached.

This bayonet, outside of its use as an addition to the rifle, is great for field and utility purposes. It is also issued with a sheath that can be used as a wire cutter, adding even more use to this already impressive weapon.
