Cold Steel Heavy Duty Self Defense Sword Cane

( 13 customer reviews )

This appealing sword cane is as stylish and fashionable as it is functional! Measuring 38 5/8" overall, this item features an extra strong, partial crook handle made from Grivory, with a black, aluminum shaft that is 5.5 mm thick and heat-treated for strength. The shaft is handsomely tapered and capped with a thick rubber ferrule for better traction on slick, icy sidewalks or uneven terrain. The 24 1/4" blade is made from 1055 Carbon steel with a tapered square cross section and is sturdy enough for cutting and thrusting. This is a superior example of a sword cane! Cold Steel, 88SCFD.

HEAVY Duty Sword Cane

This sword cane overshadows most every other sword cane out there. It certainly beats all the other sword canes that come off a production line. For a similar weapon that MIGHT be able to outperform this weapon, a person would have to look far and wide for a custom-made piece. I've found that while it's appearance is that of a regular, unobtrusive cane, it's weight is something that will make people's eyebrows go up. Not to be left lying around for anyone to come along and pick up. If you're going to carry it, make sure YOU'RE the only person handling it, unless you're comfortable with the idea of people knowing about your hidden weapon.

Great value

Perfect for my needs! This cane not only alleviates my osteoarthritis in my lower extremities, but gives me multiple options for self defense. It looks totally like a garden variety medical use cane, however, is anything but. The overall weight is perfect for swinging while sheathed. Also, with a quick flick of the wrist, you can easily sweep an ankle out from under an attacker. Not mentioned in the add, is a double retaining gasket making the handle secure unless you sincerely want the business end revealed. No chance a small child can pull this out and risk injury, certainly a plus! The metal tube is light yet strong. Blade is at least 3/8 inch thick steel, which the photos do not show. The edge is indeed sharp, and with the robust thickness of the blade, it will get your job done if ever called upon. Increase mobility and stay protected. Worth every penny!

Cold Steel Sword Cane

The first statement that should be made about this item is......WOW!!!! Very nicely constructed, The grip is very good; ergonomically speaking. I'm very impressed with the blade. This is "head & shoulders"; above any other sword cane I've ever owned. The blade was sharp straight out of the box. Excellent construction overall. As with other reviewers; I agree about the tip. It is a hard plastic, not rubber. And as I use it actually as a cane; this is a problem on any polished floor or "slick" surface. This problem is easily remedied with a 1" rubber cane tip that can be purchased @ any pharmacy. To summarize; overall, a most excellent cane, (with the tip exception); and an excellent addition to anyone's collection. Whether you actually walk on a cane for medical reasons, or just a gentleman's walking stick. I give it 5 stars & 2 thumbs up!!

Awesome

I bought this as a backup weapon for when my knees give me trouble. I'm a big guy, and this cane provides excellent support. The blade is very good, as is to be expected from Cold Steel. For those that find it difficult to draw the sword, twist the shaft with your off-hand as you begin to pull the blade out. This helps to break the initial friction of the 0-rings to the sidewall, and the blade slides out easily.

Best conceal protection and support

Reviewed By: bobaviator (Lewiston,  ME)
This is one of the best conceal weapons that you can buy for the money. You can use it as normal support for an injury or protect your own life and nobody will be the wiser, that it is just a cane. I have no problem with the big rubber on the bottom, it helps to conceal it as, just a cane.

Hi. I'm going to be using a cane the rest of my life. I'm disabled, I'm 255lbs, & 59yrs old. I'm a perfect target for anyone to mess with me. I bought this cane, and i'm using it daily. You do have to get use to the weight, its heavy. The rubber tip is to hard, but does work, be careful. As for looks, plain, like an old mans daily cane should. I'm impressed that this cane can support all my weight, that's what I needed. Not a Cheap walking cane. I now feel save with this. I'm going to add a wrist strap to it so I don't drop it or someone takes it off of me. If you want a cane for support, not a walking stick, this is it! Now the only problem I'll have is when raising the cane as a club, or pulling out the sword, is that I don't fall down, cause I can't balance. I REALLY LIKE this Cane! I highly recommend this for a disabled person! JUST DON'T FALL DOWN!

Nearly Ideal

Reviewed By: Orthonian1289 (Doylestown,  PA)
As someone who walks with a cane regularly, and is out late fairly often I saw this as a great opportunity to kill two birds with one stone. Upon drawing the blade for the first time one of the rubber rings that holds the blade in the shaft snapped mostly off. Luckily it works just fine with 1 (since two might make it excessively hard to draw and as read in another review, they are a #13 and easily replaceable). Pros: The blade is well balanced, the shaft is durable enough to parry or club as well, and it serves a s a very sturdy cane (and nobody else is the wiser). Cons: The rubber ring snapped as I said right away, the sword is not easily drawn very quickly (a release for a latch would probably have been ideal) and the tip of the cane doesn't look like it provides much traction on slick terrain. All in all I'd say its definitely worth the money. Once sharpened the blade will serve its owner well.

Cold Steel Heavy Duty Sword Cane

Reviewed By: RAR (Sparks,  NV)
This is truly a heavy duty sword cane. The blade is excellent, and sharp, and you can easily use the aluminum shaft for parrying or as a bludgen. the blade is held in the shaft by two rubber "O" rings. There are three pins which hold the handle to the blade. On mine one of the pins was protruding, which in turn scarred the inside of the shaft and made it almost impossible to remove the blade. One of the "O" rings was damaged (the "O" rings are a #13 and can be found at any hardware store.)The scratches on the inner shaft have scratched the plastic or "Grivory" handle that inserts in the shaft, but all works well now. I agree with the other reviewers about the ferrule. It is large, but it is more like hard plastic over rubber, and I wouldn't want to guarantee it would provide "traction" on ice. Overall, this is truly a real blade weapon in every sense. If you want to see this in action, go to the Cold Steel website and watch the video. Editor's Note: Thank y

Cold Steel Heavy Duty Sword Cane

Reviewed By: Dan Cziraky (Gastonia,  NC)
The product was much heavier than I'd anticipated. I actually walk with two canes, and bought two of these to use when I know I'll be out late. Really, I should've just bought one, but I'll keep the 2nd as a "spare." The cane does offer incredible support, although the hard rubber tip does have the potential to slip on slick or wet surfaces. Ideally, it should be a replaceable tip, not permanent. The heavy shaft would make a formidable weapon all on its own. My plan is to get a functional cane of the same size, either black or I'll paint it black to match, and use both to walk with. Editor's Note: Thank you for your comments. cold steel cane sword

Reviewed By: Robert (Shalimar,  FL)
I am pleased with my cane. The reason that I gave it a 4 instead of a 5 is because of the rubber tip. I don't care about the size of the tip. But, the tip is hard. Since I actually use the cane as a cane, it does have a slip potential that should be addressed.
