Black Ronin Tomahawk = Awesome!

Reviewed By: Adam Reckelhoff (West Lafayette,  IN)
This thing is formidable. Just to let you know, mine is currently stuck up in a tree at my Grandpa's farm. Yeah, the wrapping around the handle came off, but that's entirely irrelevant. This thing rocks! I really do need to retrieve it from that tree.

fantastic buy

I've been throwing steel for almost 20 years. I have thrown everything from mom's butter knives to machetes to full blown fireman's axe. Overtime steel chooses you, granted that is harder for the online shopper to verify without the ability to look and feel the product. This tomahawk exceeded all expectations after months of throwing not only intact but hardly damaged at all. The cliche I guess would to whine about the wrapping, while it did come off, is no reflection on the axe as a whole. I simply took the the handle cord from the tomahawk and attached to a an old throwing knife thus making a new spear line. Bottom line this versatile weapon is truly worthy of owner ship.

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Let me start off saying that you HAVE to buy this. I recently bought two of these, and I gotta say, these are 10x higher quality than they look and that I thought. This steel is very high quality and this is easier to through than it seems. All you do is throw it and about 8 feet is one rotation. I marked off 2 rotations and that is perfect distance. The reason I marked it is because it would stick in the bottom spike or the back pike. So where I marked it, it stick EVERY time in the axe head. GO BUY SOME.

I bought this tomahawk for fun and it is pretty sweet. I stuck my target almost every time. It's very sharp and very awesome. The only thing is the nylon cord became loose and fell off and i don't know how to redo it. but over all a great weapon.

This is a well balanced and nasty little tomahawk. The cord handle comes loose and it doesn't matter because it feels better throwing w/o it so take it off. No matter your skill you will stick this beast because of all the points. Really easy to throw and stick.

Pretty sturdy. I have thrown it dozens of times and the most damage done to the tomahawk itself was bending the back end point a little bit. Other than that, it is a great buy.

H*** YEAH!!!!

Reviewed By: Dalton Champion (Pearland,  TX)
wow whenever i took this out of the box it stabbed my finger and i was bleeding like crazy BE CAREFUL it hurts like h*** its very lightweight and as you can see you can't miss with this bad boy it had spikes everywhere so it'll get stuck in the target every time my only complaint is the sheath messed up the cord wrapping but i simply tied it again and if you are looking for a good quick draw weapon this is not for you (the sheath makes taking it out impossible) but still my favorite throwing weapon ever. I bought one on accident. Then I started using it...throw away your kama this is a modern replacement...throwable and even has holes in the bottom of handle tip for rope (ala kusari!) or straps for your arm etc. Very very versatile piece definitely modern ninja gear! I tossed my crappy wooden kama after I got 2 of these! Now I need one more to make a kusari-kama! (kidding I wouldn’t toss my old budo gear ... unless I had too :))

Black Ronin Tactical Throwing Tomahawk Axe

Reviewed By: asetech2009 (Vista,  CA)
1 to 10, I give them a solid 7. I bought 5 for practice and found them to be so so for the average thrower. The rope will come off quickly, so remove it. The rear spike will break off if you throw them a lot from different distances. After they broke off I ground the end down. It did not seem to affect the balance. They are sharp and throw well. Be prepared to replace your target often if you throw a lot. They will tear them up fast! I would buy more of them in the future. for the price, they are great to practice with.

It is really great. Although, like with any other BudK product, the "nylon" cord wrapping came off within 30 min, it is still a great piece. The slim pointed side opposite the axe blade does not come with a blade even made on it like the pic shows though. Good stick most of the times.

Pretty Awesome

Reviewed By: JosephDestroyZ (Deming,  NM)
I threw mine for a couple of weeks before the handle unraveled. I easily fixed that though by wrapping it back however(does not matter how) then wrapped that with several layers of sports tape, although all kind of tape works. It's now been about a month later and that still has not came off yet. Also I wish I lived in a place with stuff to throw it at. If your around trees then Id recommend it.

Pretty Sweet!

Reviewed By: Eric Sersch (Harrisburg,  PA)
I really like this axe! I actually got it stuck in a tree and landed on the tip of the handle! Cool! Sticks to anything as long as you throw it correctly. Couple things I would change on it. The sheath, is veeeeeerrrryyyy tight to get the handle in with the wrapping of the cord. The cord isn't wrapped tight, came undone after a couple throws at a target. So what I did was wrap the handle in electrical tape, now its a lot easier to get in and out of the sheath with the slippery tape! Good move!

Just got it in the mail today, I was really pumped and immediately began throwing. Like the other reviews the nylon immediately came off, it was so far off i had to simply take it off. I'm not good with knots lol, but its a great hatchet for the cost. And if anyone can give me some advice on what to do about not having a grip I would appreciate it.

bad sheath

This axe is wonderful, the blade is a good size and the pick end is solid. However, the sheath is awful. it protects the blade and pick well, but it takes like a minute to remove the axe from the sheath!

Better than i expected

Reviewed By: Rev. Richard Ramsey (Shelbyville,  IN)
It is much lighter than was expected, so it took some getting used to that. It held strong, it was made very nicely. My only complaint was the nylon handle. It came undone after only the second throw. We chose to remove the nylon altogether and are going to replace it with a leather grip. Which is too bad because the look of the nylon was awesome, it just wasnt very practical.

Decent purchase

Reviewed By: Joshua Matthews (McMinville,  TN)
It throws very well, and has extremely sharp points and blades out of the box. However, the nylon will come undone after a couple of throws, and the steel is not very durable. I broke the pike end off the axe on my fourth trip to the backyard throwing it. It flies straight and sticks well no matter which end strikes, but the 420 steel is just not durable. I was throwing into a soft wood target, so I know it wasn't misuse that caused the break. It's a worthwhile buy if you want it as an ornamental piece, or for home defense, but as far as an every day thrower, i.e., one to practice with, I would look for something made of higher quality steel.

If you want a throwing weapon this is not for you!

Reviewed By: Nathan Bornheim (columbus,  OH)
I am an avid knife and axe thrower and I must say this item was ultimately disappointing in that regard. It was not sharp out of the box which despite its nice weight distribution made it hard to stick even with good contact. The blade was the only thing even remotely thin enough to expect it to stick the points were dull and thick, not even really points to be honest. I will have to go back and sharpen all of these things and hope for better results but as far as this item comes out of the box, it is not at all as advertised.
